THINGS TO DO IN AND AROUND EENDEKUIL
  

The Eendekuil Hotel is the ideal base to explore the following areas:

  • Flowers.
    • In flower season from August to November, Eendekuil and the surrounding area is covered with yellow and purple veld flowers, orange Sparaxis and white Arum lillies. Northward you’ll be amongst the daisies, with the spectacular Bidouw Valley with its famous flowers just 125 km away – the ideal day trip
  • Cederberg.
    • Go over the Piekenierskloof Pass northward and you’re into the citrus growing area and the foot of the Cederberg with its spectacular rock formations sporting interesting names. Formations like Maltese Cross, Lot’s Wife, Wolfberg Arch and Stadsaal Caves are just a couple of kilometers away.
  • Sandveld.
    • Explore the potato growing capital of South Africa. Drive the 80 Kilometers north west to the sea and see where and how potatoes are cultivated in huge circles. End up in the fantasic Elands Bay, crayfish capital of S.A. Stop over at the Verlorenvlei, a haven for bird watchers, one of the most important estuarine systems in the Western Cape and one of the largest natural wetlands along the west coast. Species include Purple Gallinule, Eastern White Pelican,African Spoonbill, Cape Shoveller, African Fish Eagle, Goliath & Purple Herons as well as European Bee-eaters, which breed in this area. This wetland has been identified as one of the important Bird Areas and is a Ramsar listed site.
  • Swartland.
    • Explore the waving green wheat fields with the stunning yellow fields of canola in between in the area in winter time. Come see the fruit processing of soft fruits in summer and citrus in winter, or the operations of the many rooibosch tea processing plants in the area. Visit the fruit basket of the country on top of the Piket Berg, or the many wine farms and other fruit growing farms in the area.
